A surreal sense of visual intrigue in Seoul
At the end of November, Text Sandwich opened its production site in Euljiro for an Open Factory exhibition, revealing how the collection comes to life. The presentation brought together our metal pieces released to date and a new work inspired by books on the American abstract artist Cy Twombly. Drawing from Twombly’s sculptures and his Roman residence, the Cy Collection takes the form of a small stool designed to hold a book.
For this exhibition, photographer Bahc Shinyoung captured the Cy Collection through a dreamlike, surreal lens. Her large-format prints revealed textures, edges, and silhouettes that are impossible to perceive on a phone screen—an immediate and striking sensory experience. Installed amid the factory’s industrial environment, the surreal images created an intriguing contrast and delivered unexpected visual delight.
Moving forward, Text Sandwich will continue to evolve beyond a lifestyle brand into a Seoul-based cultural label—disassembling and reassembling space, structure, and sensation to create compelling new outcomes.
서울의 초현실적 감각이 느껴지는 시각적 재미
지난 11월 말, 텍스트 샌드위치 컬렉션의 탄생 과정을 공개하는 오픈 팩토리(Open Factory) 전시를 을지로 밀링 공장에서 열었습니다. 그간 출시한 텍스트 샌드위치의 금속 제품들과 미국 대표 추상주의 작가 사이 톰블리 Cy Twombly의 서적에서 영감을 받은 신작을 함께 선보이는 자리였습니다.
현대와 고전을 아우르는 사이 톰블리 조각과 그의 로마 레지던스에서 영감을 받은 Cy 컬렉션은 책을 올리기 위한 아담한 스툴입니다. 특히 이번 전시에서는 사진가 박신영이 몽환적이고 초현실적인 시선으로 바라본 Cy 컬렉션의 사진 작업을 대형 출력물로 담아냈습니다. 사물에 숨어있는 세밀한 면 처리와 질감, 실루엣을 섬세하게 포착한 사진은 스마트폰 화면 속 작은 이미지로는 느낄 수 없는 압도적이고 직관적인 감각을 불러 일으켰습니다. 혼잡한 공장 환경 속에 배치된 초현실적인 사진이 묘한 대비감을 이루며 시각적 즐거움을 선사했습니다.
앞으로도 텍스트 샌드위치는 단순한 라이프스타일 브랜드를 넘어 공간의 구조와 감각을 해체하고 재조립하는 서울의 컬처 레이블로서 흥미로운 결과물을 보여드리기 위해 다양한 시도를 해나가려고 합니다.
